Who is IFAGE?
The Institute for Faith and Gender Empowerment (IFAGE) envisions a society where men and women are equal and free from sexual and gender-based violence.
IFAGE is registered in Kenya as a faith based, non-governmental organization (NGO), working with grassroots organizations and faith communities to address sexual and gender-based violence in the African context, targeting men and women, faith leaders, and youth in order to end sexual and gender gender-based violence.
Our mission is to harness the potential of faith actors and gate-keepers in the African context to address violence against women and girls through change of mindsets and attitudes about the value and dignity of both women and men, transforming of social gender norms including patriarchy, which we believe is the root cause of gender-based violence.
Our Vision
We envision a world where women, men, and children are equal and free from sexual and gender-based violence in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Our Mission
We prevent all forms of gender-based violence by using principles of faith to educate, equip, and advocate for gender equity and justice in communities.
Our Core Values
Equality: We believe in equal worth and dignity for men and women in the society. We proclaim justice as a key element for fairness, peace, and reconciliation.
Inclusivity: We uphold dignity of all human beings regardless of gender, race, and color. We value each other’s contributions and hold the conviction that only from diverse backgrounds and divergent points of view can we find the best solutions.
Integrity: We recognize that how we do our work and how we collaborate with others is just as important as what we are seeking to accomplish.
Teamwork: We are invested in the success of others, we treat each other with respect and kindness, and we will work diligently to lift each other up.
Accountability: We believe in transparency and accountability in all activities we do.
Our History
The Institute for Faith and Gender Empowerment (IFAGE) was initially registered as Ekklesia Foundation for Gender Education in 2013 until 2019, when the name was changed to: “Institute for Faith and Gender Empowerment” in-line with new realities in the community and the need to scale up its impact.

The Reverend Misolo’s personal and in-depth research on the topic of gender justice completely changed his attitude and worldview regarding women and the role of a faith community in advancing equality and justice for women and girls in any society.
IFAGE’s main objective was, and still is, to harness the potential of men, faith groups, and other traditional actors in addressing sexual and gender based violence (SGBV) in the African context by challenging structures and systems of patriarchy, poverty, and violence against women and girls simply because they are born females.
Since then, IFAGE has been at the forefront of challenging retrogressive social, religious, and political structures in the society through advocating for gender justice, equality, and women’s empowerment.
Awareness and advocacy about these topics has been raised through training and engaging men and traditional leaders on gender based violence, planning and hosting annual Pan-African faith leaders conferences on gender reconciliation, and training youths on sexuality and reproductive health in order to end/reduce teenage pregnancy, early/child marriages, and female genital mutilation.
The Reverend Misolo, who asked to be relieved by the bishop from full time responsibility as a church priest, has dedicated his life and ministry to empower communities in Africa with knowledge and skills regarding gender justice and equality.
